Leeds backed to agree stunning Caoimhin Kelleher deal - Insider

Leeds United have been backed to agree a sensational deal to sign Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher if they’re able to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who remains closely connected with the club, claims the 26-year-old would be a “perfect fit at Leeds.”

Illan Meslier is the current number one at Elland Road but has come under regular criticism from pundits and fans alike for costly mistakes, such as his performance against Millwall on November 6.

Football Insider revealed back in October that the Yorkshire giants were plotting to sign a new goalkeeper, and Kelleher could be an option they pursue.

Football Insider reported that the Ireland international is looking to leave Anfield in a bid to push for more regular playing time to advance his career.

The shot-stopper has regularly impressed when stepping in for Alisson but has been axed out of the team whenever the Brazil international has been fit to play as Arne Slot has made a firm decision regarding his first choice goalkeeper.

Caoimhin Kelleher could make a major move to Leeds

“It’s certainly a position that's in the press at the moment with Leeds with Meslier,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“Meslier is a top goalkeeper, I just think he's a confident goalkeeper, [he] plays well when he's playing well, as daft as that sounds.

“When there's any type of criticism or there's goals that go in, he becomes susceptible and he makes the wrong decisions.

“Daniel Farke's not afraid of making big decisions and he's got Karl Darlow there as a [number] two so if he needed to change it he would have changed it up.

“Kelleher, he would be a perfect fit at Leeds if that was to be his next destination if they went into the Premier League.

“Meslier struggled like a couple of others in the Leeds side in the Premier League.

“The future for Kelleher is not the natural successor to Alisson as we thought it was going to be.

“So Alisson, for another season or two with Mamardashvili behind him, looks the way forward that Liverpool are going to go, and Kelleher will, guaranteed, go and play football somewhere else.

“It’s important for him that he does.”
