Leeds fans have been handed a huge fitness boost as winger Kemar Roofe is back in first-team training ahead of the Championship clash against Sunderland.

Roofe, who has scored nine goals in 30 Championship games this season, has missed the last seven league games with injury.

Leeds have lost four of these as their bad run continues, with them rooted in 13th spot in the Championship.

The news was announced on the official Leeds Twitter page on Thursday lunchtime.

Roofe, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions, could go straight into Heckingbottom's reckoning as he carries on formulating his plans for next season.

Football Insider verdict:

Good news for Leeds, although Roofe, like so many other first-team players this season, has delivered a mixed bag. He scored a hat-trick in the 3-1 against QPR, when the team went on a mini-run of four consecutive wins in the Championship. But then it all started to go wrong and they didn't win again for 10. In that run Roofe scored twice, but has sat out the last seven league games. He'll be raring to go in a bid to prove that he is a big part of Heckingbottom's plans for next season but could well start from the bench.
