Alex Bruce believes his former club Leeds United may be looking at alternative centre-backs after their latest bid for Ben White was turned down.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, ex-Elland Road defender Bruce delivered his verdict after Leeds had a third bid rejected for their former loan star.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that United’s’ latest offer rising to £30m was knocked by the Seagulls.
Leeds opened negotiations for White’s permanent signature with an £18.5m bid and had a further £22m offer rejected.
Asked by Football Insider whether he can see a deal between Leeds and Brighton materialising Bruce said: “If he’s not for sale, he’s not for sure. I wouldn’t be letting him go if I was anything to do with Brighton.
“He’s got a huge future in the game, he’s an excellent player so I can fully understand why they want him back.
“I think they’ll know whether he’s available. It wouldn’t surprise me if they were exploring other avenues now if they’re not getting anywhere with Ben White.
“He’s been on loan there, they know him personally and if it’s not happening now I can’t see it happening any time soon.”
Despite joining Brighton as a 16-year-old White has made only two appearances for Brighton, both in the League Cup.
White played all 46 league games as Marcelo Bielsa’s side clinched the Championship title and returned to the Premier League after 16 seasons away.
