Leeds United supporters have been left stunned after their latest transfer was announced.

The Whites are back in the Premier League after two seasons away after winning the Championship title last season ahead of Burnley on goal difference.

Daniel Farke is keen to strengthen his squad with Lukas Nmecha already signed and Manor Solomon linked with a return to Elland Road following his loan spell last season.

Fans react as Leeds unveil new defender

Taking to X (23 June) Leeds revealed their latest summer signing to their supporters.

Jaka Bijol was unveiled as the club's new defender and one fan replied to the post with “wow! This was kept quiet, kudos. Out of nowhere...”

The Slovenian international, who has 63 caps for his country, joins on a five-year deal from Udinese.

The 26 year-old made 37 appearances for the Italian club last season, scoring two goals.

Bijol has also previously played in the Champions League whilst at CSKA Moscow and fans were clearly excited about what he could bring to Leeds next season.

Leeds targeting positive season with Bijol announcement

Bijol’s pedigree should certainly be a welcome addition to Farke’s side, and the Slovenian was a wanted man with Newcastle also reportedly interested in signing him.

At the heart of their defence, Leeds now have a defender standing at 6ft 4 who will give them a dominant presence in both boxes.

Building a relationship with Joe Rodon will now be crucial throughout pre-season.

A strong partnership will be key for Leeds in their bid to stay up with recent promoted sides struggling to contain Premier League strike forces which had led to their immediate return to the second tier.

It was exclusively revealed to Football Insider back in April, that the club believed they only had six players good enough to start in the Premier League.

With Bijol becoming just Farke’s second signing of the window, more transfer activity is likely at Elland Road.
