Leeds United fans are hopeful that the club will beat French giants Marseille to the signing of Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe.

The West Yorkshire club are currently in the market for a new left-winger following the sale of Championship Player of the Season Crysencio Summerville to West Ham.

They face stiff competition to sign Rowe, 21, from Norwich City but French outlet L'Equipe are now suggesting that a move for the winger may be too expensive for Marseille.

This comes after the Ligue 1 club have most recently committed £26 million to sign French forward Elye Wahi from league rivals RC Lens.

Leeds currently only have 20 first-team players on their books, the lowest amongst teams in the Championship.

Football Insider revealed (August 12) that Leeds target Jesurun Rak-Sakyi has turned them down and is set to undergo his Sheffield United medical.

Rowe was a standout for Norwich City last season, scoring 13 goals in 38 appearances across all competitions for his boyhood club.

Leeds United are seriously lacking in first-team players as they seek to earn promotion back to the Premier League and will have to make additions before the end of the transfer window.

As reported by L'Equipe, Marseille are considering withdrawing from the race for Jonathan Rowe after seeing a €12m (£10.3m) bid rejected.
Likely to leave Leeds, as it stands, as the only suitors for the Norwich winger.

15m is a lot for Rowe, I can see why some clubs don’t want to pay that for a championship level player, I wouldn’t see him stepping up to the premier league but he could do a good job in the championship for us #lufc

LUFC should be aiming for high ceiling lads like Rowe or Hansen in attack

Finding 8 is more tricky, as should preferably be in/close to his prime

I think Rowe is a good replacement. I'm not sure what account it was, but they posted a detailed stat graph, and they have similar game style. Rowe rw gnonto lw georgie joesph is a great attack

Whether they go “big” on CM in terms of replacing Summerville’s 20 goals & 9 assists, or a winger remains to be seen. Probably explains why they want Rowe as he’s a winger/CAM, so probably covers both. I know they like to work in “silence” but the silence is currently deafening!

There are now also reports Marseille view Rowe too expensive, probably due to their previous spending this window.

Leeds yet to make a solid bid although positive, but need to reach compromise with Norwich.
