Leeds fans furious as Daniel Farke ‘insults’ Wilfried Gnonto: ‘Massive mistake’, ‘Complete joke’

Leeds United supporters are annoyed with how Daniel Farke has treated fan favourite Wilfried Gnonto as he edges closer to leaving the club this summer.

Gnonto has struggled for minutes upon Leeds’ return to the Premier League this season, after he was integral to their promotion from the Championship last term.

The Italian winger last started a league match in November before Farke switched to a 3-5-2 formation, and has seen Dan James jump ahead of him in the wing-back pecking order over the last two weeks.

Farke does not look set to give Gnonto a chance to prove himself at Leeds before the season ends, and he has hinted at an imminent exit in a new social media post.

Leeds transfer plans will be ramping up after their Premier League safety was confirmed, with many supporters angry with the manager for seemingly forcing Gnonto out of Elland Road.

Leeds fans rip into Daniel Farke after Wilfried Gnonto’s latest Instagram post

Gnonto took to Instagram on Monday evening to post a series of pictures of himself with his teammates after Leeds’ final home game of the season against Brighton on Sunday.

He captioned the post with: “Elland Road. Thank you” to hint at an exit, and several Whites stars sent heartfelt messages after what looks to have been his last game in front of Leeds’ home fans.

Numerous Whites supporters took to X to lash out at Farke for the lack of opportunities he has afforded Gnonto in the Premier League as he now nears the exit door.

One fan wrote: “Totally mismanaged by Farke and an insult that he is behind Aaronson in the pecking order. Will be a great signing for an attacking manager.”

While another added: “We should not be letting Gnonto leave. I’d prefer to lose Farke than Gnonto.”

And one supporter said: “A complete joke what Farke has got out of Gnonto and (Largie) Ramazani. I think that’s fair to say. I’ll miss Gnonto a lot. No doubt in my mind that he’ll go on to have a great career and be worth more than whatever we sell him for.”

What has Farke said about Gnonto’s future at Leeds?

Football Insider previously revealed that Leeds will consider letting Gnonto leave permanently this summer if a big offer for his services arrives.

That now looks destined to happen, since they are regularly playing without wingers, and especially after what Farke admitted last month about the 22-year-old’s lack of opportunities this season.

He said: “(Wilfried is) at his best when we have lots of possession. When we’re under big pressure, it could be tricky for him. Top-class human being. (He) can’t play all of them.”

Leeds are very rarely the team that dominates the ball in the Premier League, and their stay in the top flight will surely spell the end of Gnonto’s time at Elland Road this summer.
