Leeds fans must prepare for broken hearts after ominous comments on senior star
Leeds United fans have had little to celebrate this season, and will be hoping that the summer brings something to cheer.
A disastrous campaign has seen their play off hopes go up in smoke and now the side are just trying to rescue some respect from their season, something which was not helped by the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday last time out.
Just one win since Boxing Day makes shocking reading, and the supporters may want to brace themselves for more bad news between now and the end of the season as Pablo Hernandez’s contract comes to an end.
The Elland Road faithful have been urging Paul Heckingbottom and the Leeds board to sign up the Spaniard to a new deal, having been one of the few bright lights during the campaign, but the manager’s latest comments are ominous, and hint at a possible failure in agreeing terms.
He told BBC Radio Leeds on Wednesday (21/03): “There’s more important things to Pablo than the finances – contract length, yes, would be one.

“But there’s other things as well – his role within the team, his role within the squad, the type of football we want to play, his affection for the club.
“There’s a lot more to it than just a contract offer on the table. He wants to be excited about the last few years of his career.”
If it was only an issue of money, then the Whites could splash out and seal a deal, but the personal terms of it all make it a tightrope in terms of negotiations.
One wrong move, and talks could come tumbling down around Heckingbottom.
It has been a difficult season for not only the fans but the players, and there has been little to get excited about, so convincing Hernandez that is going to change come August is a mighty task.
Furthermore, there can be no guarantees made over the Spaniard’s playing time, and it could well be that he breaks the Leeds fans’ hearts by moving elsewhere on a free.
It would be the worst possible end to the season, but seeing as how the campaign has gone already, the supporters might want to brace themselves for disappointment now.
In other Leeds United news, now scoring goals for fun, the Whites released this 6ft 2in Premier League forward for being too short.
