Leeds United fans have slammed defender Luke Ayling for his part in the 2-1 win against Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Sunday.
Ayling, 26, gave away a penalty while the Whites were two goals to the good when he dragged down Daniel Ayala in the box in what was a controversial decision.
The ex-Bristol City ace was thrown to the ground by the Middlesbrough defender in an incident that should have seen a foul awarded in Leeds’ favour.
However Ayling reacted by grabbing Ayala’s foot while he was on the ground, hauling down the Boro man in the penalty area.
Britt Assombalonga scored the spot-kick to spark what was a tense final moments for Thomas Christiansen and his men.
Fans believe that the decision was the wrong one, but have slammed Ayling for his retaliation which could have cost them three points against Garry Monk’s side.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Very silly by Ayling, but he was definitely thrown to the ground first. Linesman’s a joke. #LUFC

Clear foul on Ayling. Idiotic to react like that in your own area. Can't depend on officials to see everything. #LUFC

Ayling clearly fouled, but his reaction was just idiotic. Praying it doesn’t cost us #lufc

Ayling has been a mainstay of the starting line-up this season, making 21 appearances across all competitions while at times being handed the captain’s armband.
He has made the right-back spot his own and was rewarded with a new contract.
However since then performances have notably dipped in what has been a tough spell of form for Leeds.
In other Leeds United news, it has been revealed why Stuart Dallas and Lasogga were omitted for the game against Boro.
