Frank Mulhern is heading for the Leeds exit door – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their surprise.
The young striker, 19, has been tipped for a big future after progressing through the ranks of the club’s highly rated academy.
But it emerged on Monday he could now be set to leave the Yorkshire giants after being given the green light to undergo a trial at rivals Huddersfield.
The Championship club revealed on their website that Mulhern had been included in their Under-23s side that beat Crewe Alexandra 2-1 in the Professional Development League.
The teenager’s trial at a major rival suggests he is exploring transfer options and can quit Elland Road if he finds a new club.
Supporters are shocked both that Mulhern has been allowed to play for a rival while still at Leeds and that his boyhood club are willing to let him leave.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Mulhern has just six months remaining on the two-year Leeds contract that he signed in 2015.
He had been a regular member of the Under-23s last season and went on loan at non-league Southport at the start of the season to play regular first-team football.
But the move did not work out for the Republic of Ireland Under-19 international, who made just a single appearance before returning to his parent club.
In other Leeds transfer news, the club are eying a stunning triple transfer swoop as three players headed into the training ground.
