Leeds fans react on Twitter to Berardi display against Aston Villa
By Alex Stevens
Gaetano Berardi made his third league start of the season in Leeds’ 1-1 Championship draw against Aston Villa – and fans took to Twitter to hail his performance.
The Switzerland international slotted in at left-back for the second consecutive match due to the absence through injury of first choice Charlie Taylor.
Berardi, who is a right-back by trade, looked comfortable in the position against Steve Bruce’s side, who had come into the match on the back of two consecutive wins.
But it was Leeds who extended their winning sequence with a fourth consecutive league triumph that lifted them to third in the table.
Supporters on social media were impressed at how Berardi, who is renowned for his aggressive playing style, had stood up to his task so well against a Villa front line that included leading scorer Jonathan Kodjia, Jordan Ayew and Jack Grealish.

For the most part impressed with Cooper & Berardi, Midfield needs to get on it more. Plenty of options on the bench #LUFC

Saying Berardi “has an aggressive edge” is like saying “Palestine and Israel aren’t big fans of each other”. Understatement. #lufc

It has been a frustrating season for Berardi, who was absent for three months with a hamstring injury sustained in the opening-day defeat to QPR at Loftus Road.
He suffered a series of setbacks in his recovery and found that Luke Ayling had established himself as the first-choice right-back when he returned to full fitness.
