Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton has suffered a knee injury, according to a reliable journalist.

Express & Star reporter Matt Maher has claimed on his personal Twitter account that there has been no timescale on how long the 32-year-old will be out for.

Right-back Hutton was absent from Steve Bruce’s matchday squad as they lost 1-0 away to promotion chasers Huddersfield on Tuesday night in the Championship.

January signing James Bree replaced the senior player in the starting XI, but he couldn’t do anything as his side suffered yet another defeat on the road.

Nonetheless, the supporters will be devastated with the news because Hutton joins a long injury list that is currently growing at Villa Park.

Birkir Bjarnason, Andre Green, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, Scott Hogan, Jack Grealish and Gabby Agbonlahor are the list of players currently on the sidelines for the club.

Therefore, the news of Hutton’s injury will be another blow to the club because Bruce’s squad is becoming thinner by the week.

During the game against the Terriers, Bruce had three academy players on the bench, two of whom came onto the field late in the second half.

They will now face yet another tricky tie this time against another team chasing for promotion, Sheffield Wednesday, who beat Villa on the first day of the season.

The Yorkshire club will visit Villa Park on Saturday afternoon.

In other Aston Villa news, this 22-year-old should be axed following the defeat against Huddersfield.
