Leeds have been given the green light to sign Pontus Jansson for £3.5million after he played his 22nd match – and fans on Twitter have urged the club to make the deal happen.

The Yorkshire Evening Post claim that “should now allow” Leeds to trigger the option in Jansson’s loan contract that enables them to sign him permanently from Italian club Torino.

The 25-year-old played the full match for the Whites during their the 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.

Jansson has been a key figure for Garry Monk’s side as he aims to help the club make a return to the Premier League.

Many were urging the club to get the job done and sign up the popular defender who has become a big hit since his arrival in the summer.

Overall, supporters were pleased that he had played his landmark game for the club, but they were all in agreement that they wanted him to put pen to paper.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

The Sweden international has helped his team to third in the Championship table, eight points ahead of seventh-placed Derby as a top six finish is looking likely.

Jansson’s combative defending and calmness on the ball has seen him play 22 games in all competitions for the club this season.

During those matches, he has scored two goals, both coming in the Championship and against recently relegated sides Norwich and Aston Villa.
