The former Chesterfield defender has failed to feature on a regular basis for Leeds this season, as he acts as first reserve to first-choice partnership Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley.
However, former Leeds midfielder Strachan has opted to hand Cooper a call-up to the Scotland squad, as they prepare to face Canada in a friendly before going up against Slovenia in thw qualifying phase of the 2018 World Cup.
Leeds fans were delighted to see Cooper given a chance to earn his first cap with Scotland, joining Eunan O’Kane, Chris Wood, Pontus Jansson and Stuart Dallas in earning international call-ups.
