Leeds fans react on Twitter to report 27-year-old will not return to club next season

By Matt Farr

Leeds defender Giuseppe Bellusci has reportedly already quit the club on a permanent basis – and fans on Twitter are thrilled.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Phil Hay revealed on his personal Twitter account on Friday morning that the 27-year-old defender had his contract terminated by Leeds last summer.

It means that he will not be returning to Elland Road to complete what would have been the final year of the initial four-year contract he signed when he joined in 2014.

Hay referenced a FA document which lists Bellusci as having his contract terminated by the club on July 4, 2016, suggesting that the defender will not be returning to the club at the end of the season.

Bellusci is currently on loan at Italian outfit Empoli, after an agreement was reached in the summer for him to quit the club on a season-long deal after falling out-of-favour at Elland Road.

It was further reported that Empoli have an option to sign Bellusci on a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell, although the FA report suggests he is already a permanent fixture for the Serie A side.

But Leeds fans on Twitter were thrilled at the claims that Bellusci has already quit the club.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Bellusci agreed to join Leeds on a permanent basis just a week after arriving at the club on loan in August 2014.

He initially agreed a four-year contract with the club, meaning he allegedly still his one full year left to run on his contract at Leeds, despite the claims he has already quit.

He has been a regular member of the first team squad at Empoli this season, making 26 appearances for the club and scoring one goal.

In other Leeds transfer news, Garry Monk should plan a raid for this Premier League defender whose contract is set to expire this summer.
