Leeds fans react on Twitter to cryptic message from reported summer target

By Harvey Byrne

Goalkeeper David Stockdale posted a cryptic two-word message stating “family first” on Friday evening – and Leeds fans on Twitter believe it could be a hint that he is joining the club.

The Daily Mirror have reported on their website that the 31-year-old goalkeeper has rejected a contract at current club Brighton despite winning promotion amid interest from the Yorkshire giants.

The Seagulls’ number one is now set to be out of contract this summer and Stockdale is originally from Leeds and has previously admitted to supporting the club when growing up.

This has then played a part in Leeds fans believing that he wants a move closer to home after the shot-stopper posted on his personal Twitter account “family first”.

A number of supporters of the Yorkshire club on social media have stated that they would welcome the signing and many believe he can help them progress further.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Stockdale played a key part in helping Brighton achieve a second placed finish this season with 45 league appearances to his name, which saw him keep 20 clean sheets and concede just 40 goals.

Meanwhile, Leeds are playing with veteran Rob Green between their sticks who has also had a strong season, but there will be doubts how much longer he can go on for, as he will be 38 next season.

In other Leeds transfer news, the Whites have been installed joint favourites to land this top-flight goal machine.
