Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to re-sign Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton in the January transfer window.

Clayton, 28, has struggled for first-team football at the Riverside this season after being outcast from the squad by Boro's former manager Garry Monk.

The former Leeds midfielder, who left Elland Road in 2012, has made just one appearance in Middlesbrough's last 12 fixtures and is not even managing to get on the bench.

Things may change for Clayton now that Monk has been sacked and replaced by Tony Pulis, but Whites fans on Twitter still believe that it is achievable for them to strike a deal with their Championship rivals to bolster the midfield.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

Clayton has made 14 appearances for Middlesbrough this term but has not featured in a winning side in the Championship since the 3-2 victory against QPR September.

Leeds already have a good number of central midfield options to the point where Thomas Christiansen has found it very difficult to give game-time to the likes of Mateusz Klich and Vurnon Anita - both of which were signed in the summer.

Japanese midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi is also widely reported to be signing for the Yorkshire giants in January, however he will be loaned out until the rest of the season.
