'Last seen in January' - Leeds fans urge Monk to axe mainstay after latest display

By Alex Stevens

Leeds fans have urged Garry Monk to axe Pablo Hernandez after his latest anonymous display in the team’s 2-0 Championship defeat to Brentford on Tuesday night.

Hernandez played the full 90 minutes of the league clash at Griffin Park in the playmaker role he has made his own this season.

But supporters were unimpressed with the performance of the four-times Spain international, who once again struggled to make an impact in an away match.

Hernandez has been a mainstay of the team since joining initially on a loan last summer that was converted into a permanent transfer in January.

He has made 32 appearances this season, scoring four goals and weighing in with eight assists, with all of these contributions coming in league matches.

Fans made it clear that the Spaniard’s performance against mid-table Brentford should be enough for Monk to wield the axe and replace him in the starting XI for Saturday’s home clash against Preston.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Despite the setback at Griffin Park, Garry Monk’s side remain on course for a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

They are fifth in the Championship table, five points ahead of Fulham in seventh, with six matches of the campaign remaining.

Leeds will be aiming to bounce back from two consecutive defeats when they host Preston at Elland Road on Saturday.
