Leeds fans urge Jansson to take controversial action v Wolves

By Danny Wright

Leeds fans are urging Pontus Jansson to pick up a deliberate yellow card against Wolves on Monday.

The 26-year-old centre-back is currently on 14 bookings for the campaign and one more will see him receive a three-match suspension.

Jansson, on loan from Torino, has been one of Leeds’ best performers this season and has carved himself into a favourite of the Elland Road faithful.

However they want him to take controversial action and get his suspension out of the way or he could see himself banned for their potential play-off fixtures.

There are three games left of the regular Championship season after Monday meaning that if Jansson doesn’t find himself in the referee’s book against Wolves, he will run the risk of missing at least one play-off match should Leeds qualify.

The worst case scenario could see the 12-times Swedish international keep his disciplinary record intact until the season-ending fixture against Wigan. If the towering defender picks up a yellow card in that game – he will miss the entirety of the play-offs.

Supporters of the Yorkshire club know that it could be a huge risk but are still persuading Jansson to effectively take one for the team.

However, third-choice centre-back Liam Cooper is currently suspended until the Wigan clash, adding another layer of depth to the conundrum.

Here is a selection of tweets from the Leeds fans:

Jansson has made 33 appearances across all competitions for the West Yorkshire club this season.

He picked up his 14th yellow card of the campaign in Friday’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Leeds aren’t assured of a play-off place yet and could find themselves in seventh-place by the end of Monday’s fixtures if results go against them.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Southampton are looking to sign the centre-back for £13.5million.
