Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has stated that he wants Leeds’ promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday to lose in the play-off finals.
The 31-year-old recently helped the Blades earn promotion from League One to the Championship when his side beat Northampton 2-1 at the weekend.
At this moment in time, both Leeds and Wednesday currently occupy a top-six spot with the likelihood that they could meet in the play-off finals at the end of the campaign.
Both, Brighton and Newcastle are on the verge of securing promotion via the automatic places which leaves one more spot for the Premier League.
Blades supporter Sharp made it clear that he does not want Wednesday to earn promotion as Leeds fans will love the fact that he has issued a brilliant putdown of their rivals.
“I hope they lose the final of the play-offs on penalties,” Sharp told talkSPORT. “I hope we play them next season and beat them twice.”
Sheffield-born Sharp has been in outstanding form for Chris Wilder’s side this season, scoring 26 goals in 42 League One matches.
There is the prospect that he can come up against both Leeds and Wednesday next season if the duo miss out on promotion.
Carlos Carvahal’s side were beaten in the play-off finals last season when Steve Bruce guided Hull to promotion.
Now, the former Manchester United centre-back is in charge of Aston Villa, who are another club in the second tier of English football.
The Midlands outfit are 11 points off the top six and will be another side that Sharp will come up against next term.
In other Leeds news, Ian Wright has offered his thoughts on the club.
