Leeds fans will go into meltdown as 59-yr-old emerges frontrunner to replace Heckingbottom

COMMENT

Leeds United fans will be in meltdown as they may be getting all their wishes at once with Mick McCarthy now installed as the bookmakers’ favourite to be named as Paul Heckingbottom’s successor at Elland Road.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on Wednesday that Heckingbottom is set to be axed by Leeds after winning just two games since taking charge of the club in February.

The Yorkshire giants are drawing up a list of replacements to the ex-Barnsley manager and it seems that the bookmakers have started cottoning on to the fact that Andrea Radrizzani will be venturing on his third search for a new boss.

PaddyPower have installed McCarthy as 6/1 favourite to be the next man in charge of Leeds after he quit his role at Ipswich earlier this week.

The 59-year-old was due to leave Portman Road at the end of the season, but he decided to sever ties earlier than expected.

Alan Pardew and Steve McClaren (both 7/1) are also worryingly in the mix, but McCarthy’s pole position is surely going to have Leeds fans excited about the future after a major outcry for Radrizzani to hire the former Sunderland and Wolves manager.

The Yorkshireman has done a great job at Ipswich and is also someone who will provide stability to a manager’s position that has seemed like a poisoned chalice over the last decade.

It’s about time that United have some kind of stability and McCarthy can definitely be that man.

All that supporters need is for Radrizzani to wake up and smell the coffee.

In other Leeds United news, a £1.5million deal has been agreed for this defender wanted by the Whites.
