Leeds ready bid for top-flight forward in form of his career, contract talks underway - report

Leeds United have joined the hunt to sign Rangers forward Josh Windass, according to a report.
The Daily Record claims that the Championship club are ready to launch a bid for Windass, 24,  and are ready to better the offer that was booted out from Preston earlier this month.
It is understood that North End tabled an offer worth £500,000 for Windass, but the ex-Accrington Stanley ace is said to be happy at Ibrox.
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has recently confirmed that he has opened contract talks with the attacker, who has found the form of his career under the charge of the Englishman.
Murty announced that discussions are taking place with Windass, however it appears that negotiations are a long way from a conclusion.
“Our discussions with them [Windass and David Bates] will be on-going although as to lengths of contracts that’s something I will talk to the players about,” the Rangers manager said, as quoted by the Herald.
“We have spoken to both about their situations but so far detailed discussions haven’t taken place.”
Windass has made 24 appearances in all competitions for Rangers this season, scoring six goals and supplying five assists in the process.
The Hull-born attacker has been shifted from playing out on the left to a more centre-forward or attacking midfield role under Murty, and has really started to shine in the Scottish top-flight.
Football Insider verdict
Leeds need a new centre-forward this month before anything else but Windass is not natural in that position. The Rangers attacker is best playing just behind the strikers and has spent most of his career playing out on the left wing, so it would be an odd move for the Whites to make if they are seeing Windass as a solution to their striker issue. As for Rangers, Murty has bolstered his strike force this month and has also signed Jamie Murphy, who can play out on the left Windass may actually be struggling for a spot in the starting line-up, especially if a successful bid to sign Kilmarnock’s Jordan Jones is made.
In other Leeds United news, the odds on the Whites to sign this £40,000-a-week Premier League centre-forward have been slashed yet again.
