Leeds keep close tabs on outstanding playmaker from title favourites - report
By Danny Wright
Leeds United have deployed scouts to keep close tabs on Osasuna playmaker Fran Merida, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that the Whites have sent their recruitment experts to recent Osasuna fixtures to cast their rule over Merida, 27, as Victor Orta casts out his next to track down the next big thing at Elland Road.
Merida has an impressive CV of past clubs, having made the grade in the Barcelona academy before having spells at Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad and Samu Saiz’s former club Huesca.
The ex-Gunners playmaker has been in “outstanding” form with Osasuna in the Spanish Segunda Division this season according to the Mail, having made eight appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and supplying one assist.
His current side are joint favourites to win the Spanish second tier title this season having been relegated from La Liga last time out while Merida was in the squad.

Football Insider Verdict
Leeds worked tirelessly over the summer to improve their squad and it seems that the club are not ready to rest on their laurels after an impressive start to the season. Although the Whites don’t really need another creative midfielder, there’s no harm in compiling scout reports on a vast array of players. Merida has Premier League and La Liga experience under his belt and the fact that he has played at so many top teams means that there is clearly some quality there. Thomas Christiansen may want to give him another chance in England but ultimately he isn’t something that Leeds need as of this moment.
In other Leeds United news, Pontus Jansson has contradicted Christiansen with his reasoning behind his absence against Ipswich.
