Leeds have decided to end their pursuit of Norwich striker Nelson Oliveira with just days to go before the transfer window slams shut, according to a reliable journalist.

Yorkshire Evening Post report Lee Sobot claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning that the Whites had considered a move for Oliveira, 26, but have instead decided to pursue other targets instead.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has previously reported that the 16-times Portugal international forward was on Thomas Christiansen’s radar as he looked to replace Chris Wood, who signed for Burnley last week for £15million.

Jay-Roy Grot has since been snapped up by the Yorkshire giants, but as a teenager, he is perhaps not expected to be their No 1 choice to lead the line of attack this season.

Hamburg’s Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Malmo’s Pawel Cibicki are two strikers that are being closely monitored by the Whites at this late stage in the transfer window, meaning that it could be a very dramatic few days for supporters of the club, who will no doubt be eager to see if owner Andrea Radrizzani can continue to work his magic.

Football Insider Verdict

Leeds have to get another striker in before the deadline is reached and Oliveira would have been a very good addition. The former Benfica striker was a real coup when he signed for Norwich and he has started this season with a bang by scored three goals in five league matches, although he has only started two of them. The fact that he isn’t starting every week in a team that is struggling at the bottom end of the table might have meant that he could have been available on a cut-price deal. Christiansen, director of football Victor Orta and Radrizanni have got a lot right so far this summer so it’s definitely worth the supporters putting their trust in them yet again to replace Wood.
