Leeds United’s new manager Marcelo Bielsa needs to add a quality centre-back to partner Pontus Jansson next season and may regret not trying to sign Bristol City ace Aden Flint.

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has claimed on his personal Twitter account that Championship side Middlesbrough are on the verge of signing the defender, as he undergoes a medical.

It is understood that Boro have agreed a fee for the 6ft 5in (source: Transfermarkt) colossus and that is believed to be around £7million.

Flint looks set to be part of a new-look Boro defence next season, but he is exactly the type of figure that would have been perfect at Elland Road.

Leeds need a combative figure in their backline alongside Jansson if they really are going to compete for promotion and the Bristol City giants ticks a lot of boxes.

Flint has shown recently he is a real force at Championship level and many feel he is comfortable good enough to play in the top flight.

The 28-year-old is currently in the peak years of his career and has shown he is a ball-playing centre-back that is also a serious goal threat.

He sensationally scored nine goals across all competitions for the Robins and is such a handful when he pushes forward for set-pieces.

Leeds will need to splash the cash in a few key areas to transform the squad and it feels like a colossal opportunity missed with Flint set to be on the move.

In other Leeds transfer news, they have joined the hunt to sign a 6ft 2in goalkeeper from a Premier League giant.
