Monk outlines the attitude he demands from Leeds players ahead of new season

Garry Monk says his Leeds side must adapt a kind of siege mentality to have a successful season this campaign.

The Leeds manager insisted he wants his side to think of the upcoming season as the Whites versus everyone else, as the club look to make a push for promotion.

Monk says he wants his squad to mirror the attitude demonstrated by the Leeds faithful in their most recent pre-season game against Peterborough, where they sang ‘We’re going to win the league.’

“We’re all in it together,” Monk told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“We need to use that passion and they need to put passion into the team – support the team right the way through the season.

“At the end of the season we can have the debate about whether it was this or that but until that point it has to be us against every other team, against everyone outside of Leeds United.”

Leeds kick off their Championship campaign away at QPR on 7 August and will be desperate to improve significantly on their 13th place finish last season.

The defeat against Peterborough was the Whites’ first during pre-season after registering three wins from three.

Leeds will wrap up their preparations against Serie A side Atalanta at Elland Road at the weekend.

In other Leeds news, Monk wants to add some Brazilian flair to his squad but faces competition from Italy for their target winger.
