Leeds in hunt to sign left-sided flyer from Yorkshire rivals - report
Leeds United are in pole position to snap up the signing of Forest Green midfielder Jordan Stevens, according to a report.
The Mirror claimed in their live transfer blog on Sunday [03:03am] that Leeds are interested in bolstering their Under-23s side with a swoop for Stevens, 17, and are also in the hunt to sign Hull winger Tyler Hamilton.
It is understood that the Whites are facing competitions from the Premier League for midfield enforcer Stevens, with big-spending Everton and Brighton also in the chase.
Stevens has made 13 appearances across all competitions for Forest Green this season, scoring one goal and supplying one assist in the process.
He only made his senior debut in September, but it appears that Leeds are planning on a deal that welcomes him to Yorkshire to join their development squad.
Leeds are also said to be considering a raid of their Yorkshire rivals Hull for left-sided flyer Hamilton, who has made just one senior appearance in his career.
The 19-year-old played in left-midfield for the Tigers’ League Cup loss to Doncaster in August.
Football Insider verdict
Leeds are really pushing the recruitment in their Under-23s side, and while it’s good that they have been planning for the future, they are also not putting funds to the best use possible as Thomas Christiansen’s first-team is still one or two players short of launching a bid for promotion. Victor Orta seems to have obsessed over bolstering the development side with talent from across Europe, so it will be good to get some English youngsters snapped up. However United must really look at the first-team as a priority. A new striker is an absolute must.
In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has urged the Whites to splash £10million on this powerhouse striker, claiming he will be worth 50 per cent more within months.
