Leeds director of football Victor Orta may quit Elland Road in the summer after being listed as a candidate to take up a similar senior role at struggling La Liga club Deportivo, according to a report.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, as translated by Sport Witness, claims that Orta could quit English football all together and is being considered by La Coruna after Richard Barral left the director of football role at Estadio Riazor.
Orta has been a controversial senior figure since arriving at Leeds last year after his overhaul of the first-team squad left the Yorkshire giants in a much worse state than when he first arrived.
Leeds fans absolutely love to hate the Spaniard, who has previously had spells at Middlesbrough and Sevilla, especially due to the number of his signings being nowhere near good enough for the Championship.
Players like Pawel Cibicki, Mateusz Klich and Felix Wiedwald will go down in infamy as some of the biggest flops at Elland Road, however there has been the occasional gem like Samuel Saiz.
Football Insider verdict
If Orta wants to leave Elland Road then Andrea Radrizzani must not stand in his way because his stranglehold over transfers has been nothing short of abysmal. Leeds are in a much worse state now than they were 12 months ago due to the ineptitude of Orta having seen the likes of Chris Wood, Charlie Taylor and Kyle Bartley to leave and either not replace them at all or bring in players from across Europe on cut-price deals. Deportivo look as though they may go down this season, so Orta would have to consider that before ditching Yorkshire, but there’s no doubt that fans will be more than happy to push him away.
In other Leeds United news, a £1.5million deal has been agreed for this defender wanted by the Whites.
