Leeds United could activate Ryan Kent’s release clause but would not sign Jack Harrison as well this summer, according to Kevin Phillips.
The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is adamant that the Whites will only sign one of the wingers this summer given their price tags.
The Scottish Sun claim Leeds plan to make a fresh £15million move to sign the Rangers winger this summer having failed in their attempts last year.
Football Insider revealed in September that the former Liverpool attacker has a £20million release clause in his current contract at Ibrox.
Kent has been one of Steven Gerrard’s side’s standout performers this season, with his 48 appearances across all competitions yielding 12 goals and 13 assists.
When asked whether he expected Leeds to spend £20million on Kent, Phillips told Football Insider: “I could only see them paying that sort of money if they pull out of the Harrison deal.
“That is a lot of money to fork out on a winger who may not be starting every week, if they sign Harrison as well.
“He is unproven in the Premier League so it would be a slight gamble. You cannot compare the Scottish Premiership to the Premier League.
“Pay £20million for Kent and £11million for Harrison? I cannot see that happen. I think they will just sign one of them.”
Harrison has been a virtual ever-present for Leeds this season, with seven goals and five assists to his name in 30 appearances.
He is currently on his third season-long loan spell at Elland Road and a clause in his contract enables the Yorkshire club to sign him permanently in a £10million deal this summer.
