Leeds tipped to seal 'bargain' McGurk signing after Joyce reveal - Whelan
Noel Whelan is thrilled Leeds United are closing in on the “bargain” signing of Wigan Athletic talent Sean McGurk.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Whites and Middlesbrough striker claimed the 18-year-old will follow Joe Gelhardt’s path next season.
According to The Times‘ Paul Joyce (July 3rd), Leeds are closing in on the signing of the Wigan teenager, who has been long-linked with a move to Elland Road.
It is said a fee of £175,000 has been discussed but the final figure may be determined by a tribunal.
The attacking-midfielder is set to become the second player the Yorkshire giants capture from Wigan over the past 12 months.
Joe Gelhardt arrived for a fee just shy of £1million in August 2020.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the prospective addition of McGurk, Whelan said:
“It sounds like a bargain for a very highly rated young player.
“He is a player who will not be stepping straight into a first-team role. I expect him to take a similar path to Gelhardt and start in the Under-23s.
“We have seen over the past couple of years just how important Under-23s progression is with the likes of Jamie Shackleton and Leif Davis.
“I believe McGurk will be given time to bed himself in at Leeds. The Under-23s have been so successful so far but this just shows that we are not sitting on our laurels.
“We are looking to the future and looking to add competition for places.”
