'Really toxic?' - Leeds Exclusive: Bruce delivers verdict on Augustin signing
Alex Bruce has claimed Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa would not have signed Jean-Kevin Augustin without doing his homework.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United defender explained why he’s in no doubt Bielsa would have done thorough checks on the striker’s character and background.
Augustin joined Leeds in the final week of the January window on an initial loan after his season-long loan to Monaco was cancelled at the halfway point.
There have been question marks about Augustin’s attitude, with the German media reporting that he was often late for training at Leipzig.
“Bielsa, an experienced manager, I’m sure he’s done his homework to ring around and ask people what Augustin’s character’s like,” Bruce told Football Insider.
“I’m sure if it was really toxic and really bad, with the contacts that Bielsa’ll have in the game he would know whether he could manage him or not.

“It will be interesting to see how he does. I’m sure if he was that bad I’m sure Bielsa
wouldn’t have signed him.”
Bielsa revealed last week that Augustin was some way short of the fitness levels required to play for Leeds.
He has come off the bench in the last two games against Brentford, on Tuesday night, and Nottingham Forest, last Saturday, after sitting out the first two matches following his arrival.
The French forward is set to be a substitute today in the Elland Road clash against Bristol City, with Bielsa revealing at his media conference on Thursday that Patrick Bamford would once again lead the attack.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that the club are set to announce a blockbuster deal this month after extensive negotiations.
