Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear will be working hard with the club's financial offices to resolve their PSR situation.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed the West Yorkshire side are likely to be hit with a points deduction if they are found to be in breach of the financial rules.

The latest accounts showed the club must fork out £73.6million in outstanding payments by 30 June, with chairman Paraag Marathe admitting sales may be necessary as the Yorkshire giants look to comply with the PSR rules.

Leeds United looking to put PSR worries behind them

Wyness has suggested Elland Road chiefs will be working hard behind the scenes to ensure the club are not hit with a points deduction next season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The sanction is likely to be points.

“That could be the big issue. We saw how close the Championship was last year.

“Points are going to be at a premium again.

“It’s going to be tough and it’s going to be in the back of their minds.

“I think that CEO Angus Kinnear will be working extra hard with his chief financial officer to make sure the PSR situation is resolved because every point could be crucial.”
