Leeds United employee shares verdict on Rodrigo being axed after team news latest

Noel Whelan has claimed he would be “surprised” if Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch made any changes to his starting lineup against Bournemouth on Saturday (5 November).

The former Whites striker and club ambassador, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the players who secured a 2-1 win over Liverpool last week should be given the opportunity to string together back-to-back wins.

Crysencio Summerville and Rodrigo scored vital goals at Anfield to secure Leeds United’s first Premier League win since 21 August.

The Elland Road club now sit 15th in the Premier League – one point and one place below their next opponent Bournemouth.

As per Leeds Live (31 October), Luis Sinisterra could return to the squad to face the Cherries after returning from an ankle injury.

Patrick Bamford and Wilfried Gnonto are also contenders to start at Elland Road.

However, Whelan insisted he is a “big believer in keeping a winning side together”.

When asked if the likes of Bamford or Sinisterra could replace Rodrigo or Summerville in the starting lineup, he told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I’d be surprised if there are any changes.

“I think the players who went out and did the job against Liverpool should be given the opportunity.

“We played very well. Yes, we gave them chances but that is always going to happen against the top clubs.

“I’m a big believer in keeping a winning side together, and we’re back on track now.

“We didn’t expect to get three points out of Liverpool, so to pick up back-to-back wins would be really important ahead of the last game against Tottenham.”
