Kieran Maguire: Leeds United have edge over 'superstar' rivals amid £693m reveal
Leeds United have an edge over certain “superstar” clubs because of their potential for stadium expansion and their high degree of coverage in the media.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Forbes‘ latest valuation of the West Yorkshire club.
Leeds are worth £693million, according to Forbes’ annual list of football’s 20 most valuable clubs published last Friday (9 September).
They are the only club on the list to have been promoted within the last three years.
The Whites have announced their intention to add a whopping 17,000 seats to Elland Road, although it is not yet clear when work will begin.
This, along with Leeds’ profile in the media, means they have a natural advantage over the likes of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, claims Maguire.

“The Forbes valuation of Leeds focuses on potential,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Leeds is a one-city club. They also have the capacity to move to a much larger Elland Road in due course and generate increased revenues with that.
“If we look at Chelsea, they are very much hemmed in at Stamford Bridge, so there is an advantage for Leeds here.
“The likes of Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid are trailing in the wake of the other superstar clubs in their leagues. That is reflected in the amount of attention from the media they get. They are constantly fighting for exposure.
“But Leeds make stories themselves. We’ve seen this in respect of the Amazon Prime documentaries, which have attracted a large number of viewers.”
