Leeds United are closely monitoring Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan ahead of the summer, Football Insider can reveal.
The Yorkshire giants sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old in action during his team’s 3-0 league win against Accrington last night.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Brannagan is on their radar and their recruitment team have been watching him closely in recent months.
The latest transfer mission came as Brannagan attracts growing interest from clubs at the top of the English pyramid.
The Liverpool academy product has caught the eye of leading Championship teams after igniting his career with his transfer to Oxford in January 2018.
The central midfielder has been a mainstay of the League One promotion chasers this season, making 28 league starts among 34 appearances in all competitions.
The technically accomplished ace has scored seven goals and provided four assists in all competitions.
Since joining Oxford from Liverpool just over two years ago he has made 98 appearances, which have yielded an impressive 13 goals from midfield.
Brannagan made nine senior appearances at Liverpool but left as his pathway was blocked by an avalanche of international stars.
He has a contract at Oxford that runs until the summer of 2021 and his future is up in the air of the forthcoming window, when he will be entering the final 12 months of his current deal.
