Leeds United have joined the race to sign Rangers defender Connor Goldson, Football Insider has learned.
The Championship promotion favourites have turned their attention to the 27-year-old as they eye a deal either this month or in the summer.
A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Goldson is firmly on their radar as they assess centre-back targets who are capable of playing for either a leading Championship or Premier League club.
Of Leeds’ three senior centre-backs, Ben White is on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion and will return to his parent club in the summer while Gaetano Berardi is out of contract at the end of June.
This comes after Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Fulham are plotting a move to sign Goldson this month.
Rangers are aware of growing interest in the commanding 6ft 3in colossus, who has been instrumental in their resurgence under Steven Gerrard.
But Gerrard is a huge admirer of Goldson and does not want to let him go.
He has started almost every match since the Liverpool icon took charge at Ibrox and made him one of his first signings.
Goldson has proved good value for the £3million paid to Brighton, a hefty sum paid by Rangers’ modern standards.
He has been the team’s outstanding centre-back, playing a remarkable 90 matches in just a season-and-a-half.
In the current campaign, Goldson has made 36 appearances, all of which have been starts.
In other Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that a Premier League club have granted permission for a defender to head to Thorp Arch after talks.
