Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Celtic sensation Rory Mahady, sources have told Football Insider.

The Yorkshire giants have been Premier League rivals including Man City to win the race for the signature of the 16-year-old goalkeeper.

Leeds have reached a full agreement with the youngster, who has agreed personal terms.

He is set to sign an initial scholarship deal that will be converted into a professional contract when he turns 17.

Mahady could have turned a pro deal with Celtic this week - he turned 16 on Tuesday - but has knocked them back to head south of the border.

The Scotland Under-17 international played for the Hoops Under-17s last season and impressed talent-spotters south of the border.

City were among the clubs to register their interest in Mahady.

But he has chosen to accept the offer of Leeds, who have been successful in signing many top young talents in recent years.

Celtic do not want to lose the teenager but have been told he is leaving to head to the Premier League.

With English clubs now limited by Brexit rules, they are increasingly looking north for young players and trying to lure the best of them.

Ben Doak quit Celtic for Liverpool in April aged 16 despite getting minutes for Ange Postecoglou's first team.

Leeds have spent bid money on the likes of Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Amari Miller in recent years and, as revealed by Football Insider, bid £3million for Birmingham City sensation George Hall earlier this week.
