Leeds United have made an approach to sign Arsenal rising star James Hillson, Football Insider understands.

The 19-year-old is set to be handed a new contract by the Premier League before being loaned out for next season.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that Hillson is on their radar as they look to continue their goalkeeping shake-up.

The Yorkshire giants are set to activate an option - set at around £5million - to convert the loan of Illan Meslier, 20, into a permanent deal.

They also recruited Italian Elia Caprile, 18, in January and secured him to three-and-a-half year contract.

It remains to be see who will be the number one in Marcelo Bielsa's side at the end of this season.

Meslier is the man in possession and is set for an extended run while Kiko Casilla completes the final six games of his eight-match racism ban.

The Spaniard, 33, was previously the undisputed number one but his future is in major doubt ahead of the summer following the significant hit to his reputation.

The fourth keeper who trains with the Leeds senior squad is Will Huffer, but he is out of contract at the end of the season and may be let go.

Hillson has yet to make a senior appearance for Arsenal but has made impressive progress this season after joining from Reading last summer.

The club have moved to hand him a new contract to replace his current deal, which is due to expire at the end of the season.
