Leeds United have had a bid accepted by Linfield for Irish sensation Charlie Allen, Football Insider understands.

The Yorkshire giants are closing in on the signing of the attacking midfielder, 16, after a major breakthrough in negotiations.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club have agreed a fee of around £300,000 with Linfield for Allen after moving quickly to try and get a deal done.

It is regarded as a major coup given the intense interest in the sought-after teen from Premier League giants.

He has undergone trials at Tottenham and Man City as well as been the subject of strong interest from Rangers and Chelsea.

Spurs were understood to be especially keen on luring the youngster from the northern republic this summer and will regard it as a major blow to lose out on him.

Leeds' talent spotters have been very impressing by the potential of the rising star, who can play in midfield or attack.

Allen has made a number of appearances for Linfield already and broke into the first team at just 15 in the final match of last season when he became their youngest-ever debutant.

He has since made seven more appearances for the Northern Irish club, who are managed by former Leeds striker David Healy.

Allen turned 16 last November and has been described by Linfield Academy director Glenn Ferguson as "one of the brightest prospects" he has seen.
