Leeds playing dangerous game with Phillips as pictures emerge - pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted he is worried about little time off Kalvin Phillips will have had off before the new Leeds United season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward insisted Phillips need at least three weeks off after playing a starring role for England at the European Championship.

The 25-year-old revealed in a video posted on Twitter just days after England’s final defeat to Italy that he would be returning to training in just 11 days time.

That means he will report back at Thorp Arch on 24 July, three days before Leeds’ first pre-season game against Guiseley.

He posted on his personal Instagram page on 22 July he was returning from a holiday with friends, including former Whites loanee Ben White.

Asked whether three weeks was enough time off for Phillips, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think so.

“The players that have had a long season and then been to the Euros need at least three weeks off.

“Clubs like Aston Villa, I’m sure, will give the likes of Grealish three weeks off, or at least two and a half weeks.

“They’ve got a long season coming up so they need to be rested. Maybe it’s just a Bielsa thing but I’m sure the other players from the Euros will have longer off.

“It’s not long at all. You need three weeks to just zone out from football.

“If that means you come back and maybe miss the first couple of games, so be it. You’ve had a long tournament.”
