Expert backs 'top talent' to gatecrash Leeds United first team after 'elite' reveal

Michael Skubala is an “elite” operator and will help “top talent” at Leeds United to make the step up from the academy system to the first team.

That is the view of training ground expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Football Insider revealed last Tuesday (26 July) that Skubala had agreed to join Leeds as their new under-21s head coach.

He left his role as national men’s coach with the FA to take the position.

Skubala has a background in futsal and headed up the national team between 2016 and 2021.

He is also a former Uefa consultant and director of football at Loughborough University.

Dinnery eulogised over Skubala’s experience and claimed that Leeds’ young stars are in safe hands under his stewardship.

“As well as his involvement with futsal, he has been involved with the FA for a number of years,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“He has worked at various levels within the FA, most recently with the under-18 team. He knows how to nurture top talent and put building blocks in place for those players to transition into older age groups or the first team.

“That is an elite-level mentality and understanding of the process. He was also director of football at Loughborough University, so he’s well-versed and he understands the structures.”

Skubala replaces Mark Jackson, who was promoted to first team coach at Leeds in April.

The position was also previously held by Carlos Corberan, who stepped down as Huddersfield Town manager in July.
