Kieran Maguire: Leeds United takeover is 'inevitable' after new 49ers claim

It is “inevitable” that Andrea Radrizzani will reach a point where he is no longer able to finance Leeds United and will look to sell his stake.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the future ownership of the West Yorkshire club.

Radrizzani’s Aser Ventures investment vehicle has owned a controlling stake in the Whites since January 2017.

The Athletic reported in December that the San Francisco 49ers, who currently own 44 per cent, have the option for a full takeover after 2024.

But as quoted by Leeds Live on Tuesday (8 Mach), Leeds director Massimo Marinelli dismissed “press speculation” and insisted “Aser is here to stay”.

Maguire, however, argues that Leeds will need an owner with more financial clout if they are to challenge the elite in the Premier League.

“I think there will come a time when he looks for a return on his investment,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“Radrizzani realises that it is a very expensive business being a competitive force in the Premier League.

“There will be an appropriate point in time when the financial support really needs to be amplified by another party.

“It really does look inevitable and more of a case of when rather than if. But he will be desperate for Leeds to have more success in the meantime.”

Leeds are 16th in the Premier League and on a run of six straight defeats.

They face bottom-of-the-table Norwich City today (13 March).
