Bamford set for big contract as Tottenham line up reported move - Hutton

Patrick Bamford is “loved” at Leeds United and could be set to secure a bumper new deal amid reported transfer interest.

So says ex-Premier League full-back Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 27-year-old Whites goalscorer.

The Telegraph reported on 15 August that Leeds want to tie Bamford down to a new contract to ward off interest from Tottenham.

Whether Spurs make a move for Bamford may depend on the outcome of the transfer saga bubbling around wantaway striker Harry Kane.

As per the Athletic in May, Bamford’s current deal runs until 2023 after he signed a one-year extension in secret last summer.

But Hutton claims that Bamford could well be handed yet another new deal at Elland Road.

He told Football Insider correspondent Russell Edge: “There’s no guarantee that he gets that trust and that game time somewhere else.

“Does he get that at Tottenham? Probably not. At Leeds, he’s happy, he’s scoring goals, the manager loves him.

“It’s all going in his favour there and it’s a massive club in its own right. The interest in him could well get him a better deal at Leeds.

“Sometimes the grass isn’t greener and you’re better staying where you’re loved. He has been absolutely excellent for Leeds.

Bamford was Leeds’ top scorer and creator last season with 17 goals and eight assists.

He was withdrawn from the action with 13 minutes remaining as Marcelo Bielsa’s side was thumped 5-1 by Man United last Saturday.
