Leeds United have tabled a lucrative contract offer to Mateusz Klich as he closes in on agreeing a new deal , Football Insider can reveal.

Football Insider revealed at the start of this month that the Championship giants had started negotiations with the Poland international about extending his current agreement, which expires next June.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club have offered Klich a significant pay hike in a bid to tie him down beyond 2020.

The central midfielder has attracted interest from Premier League clubs – Burnley were keen on him during the summer – as well as teams across Europe.

He has been transformed from a fringe player seemingly set for the exit into a key first teamer since Marcelo Bielsa took charge last year.

Klich has started all eight of Leeds’ Championship matches this season after a hugely productive 2018-19 in which he played some of the best football of his career.

He started all 48 league and play-off matches, a remarkable feat for an outfield player, and scored 10 goals as well as supplied nine assists.

Klich has also reignited his international career over the last months and secured his 21st Poland cap during the most recent international break.

He is set to be named in the Leeds starting XI once again for tomorrow’s Championship clash away to Charlton Athletic.

Bielsa’s side head to the Valley positioned top of the league table, ahead of second-placed Swansea City on goal difference.
