Leeds United take 'massive advantage' into Brentford clash after what pundit has seen

Leeds United have an advantage heading into Sunday’s (22 May) relegation decider after rescuing a draw against Brighton last weekend.

That’s according to ex-Whites stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about his former side’s chance of staying up.

It will be a straight shootout for survival between Leeds and Burnley on Sunday after Everton secured their Premier League status with a win over Crystal Palace on Thursday (19 May).

In Leeds’ last outing they rescued a last-gasp point against Brighton, courtesy of a Pascal Struijk header.

The goal sent Elland Road into raptures and assured the Whites would not be heading into their final game of the season following a defeat.

Kenny insists this is “massive” for Leeds’ confidence ahead of their game against Brentford.

“I don’t think you can underestimate that late goal,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Elland Road erupted when that goal went in and we saw the scenes at full time.

“Now imagine if Leeds were going to Brentford without that late goal, on the back of a 1-0 loss against Brighton.

“It makes such a difference and I honestly think it is a massive advantage going into this last game.

“It’s those little things that can make a difference at this point. You just hope it’s enough to give them that edge.”

Because of their poor goal difference, a win would not keep Leeds in the Premier League if Burnley also beat Newcastle.

The Clarets drew with Aston Villa on Thursday (19 May).
