Leeds United tipped to accept cut-price Illan Meslier offer - pundit

Frank McAvennie

Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Leeds United need to "get rid" of Illan Meslier in January and given another goalkeeper a chance.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie said Leeds will struggle to make big money on Meslier but urged the Whites to move him on if they are unhappy with his performances.

The Whites had been open to selling the shot stopper in the summer but serious interest failed to materialise.

Leeds had been looking for £20-£25million for the keeper in the summer window, as revealed by Football Insider (28 July).

The Championship club feel they have adequate cover for Meslier despite starting him in every league game so far.

Farke has Kristoffer Kalesson and Karl Darlow to call upon in place of Meslier.

McAvennie insisted it may be time to give another goalkeeper the chance to prove themselves.

"The money will be cut if they put him up for sale," he told Football Insider.

"The money will pennies in today's game. The fee will be nothing like what they could have got if they were still in the Premier League.

"Do they need the money that much? I am not sure.

"If he is not doing it for them, get rid of him. There will be keepers there that can replace him, give someone else a chance and you never know you might unearth one of the greats."
