Exclusive: Leeds tipped to sign Scotland 26-yr-old available on a free

Danny Mills has tipped Leeds United to sign Ryan Fraser if they gain promotion to the Premier League.

The former England international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, suggested recruiting players with Premier League experience is essential were the Whites to return to the top flight.

Fraser will be available on a free this summer with his contract on the south coast expiring at the end of June and no suggestions he will sign an extension with the Cherries.

The 26-year-old has made 32 appearances in what has been a difficult campaign for both he and the club. Eddie Howe’s side currently 18th with fixtures suspended.

Asked by Football Insider if the Scotland international would be a welcome addition at Elland Road, Mills said: “Leeds should be looking at him. Any player who Premier League experience who is available on a free transfer they should be looking at.

“He will have other options though, without a doubt.

“Fraser is a player of quality but sometimes free transfers’ wages can get a little bit out of hand. The wages could get silly and Leeds would have to make sure it wouldn’t knock everybody else out of kilter. Free transfers often seem great but it depends on what the wages are.

“I hope he makes the best move, in terms of football, for himself.”

Talk of a move may seem premature with the season suspended indefinitely amid the current coronavirus pandemic – but clubs are likely to be identifying targets and performing due diligence on players in the meantime.

United are currently top of the Championship and primed for an eagerly anticipated return to the top flight of English football.
