Leeds United must move to sign Divock Origi and one other striker after the Liverpool star’s £12million price tag was revealed.
That is according to ex-Leeds star and lifelong fan Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively after Football Insider revealed Liverpool’s knockdown valuation of the 25-year-old Champions League winner.
Borussia Dortmund are interested in the Belgium international, who has three years remaining on his current Anfield deal.
Like most of Liverpool’s squad, Origi has endured a difficult 2020-21 campaign in which he started just six matches and scored a solitary goal.
Whelan highlighted Origi’s ability to perform a number of roles and stated that Leeds could even sign another striker if he is available at such a cheap fee.
He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “I think we’ve got to keep our options open. Divock Origi for £12-15m, would you turn your nose up at that? No, you wouldn’t.
“He can play a number of roles, left side, right side, through the middle. You’ve got to look at these things seriously. It’s not a lot of money. It’s so cheap. You could maybe go out and get two strikers if he’s available at that price.
“We need options, especially attacking ones. We know Bielsa likes players who can be versatile and we know Origi is that.
“Like a potential Harrison deal, it’s not much of a risk. You’re not breaking the bank and you know what you’re getting. He knows the Premier League.
“He’s a good age and we play a style of football that will suit him because it’s similar to Liverpool’s.”
Liverpool signed Origi from Ligue 1 side Lille in a £10m deal in July 2014.
He has gone on to become a cult figure on Merseyside, scoring 35 goals in 157 appearances.
