Whelan excited by what he's seen from 'electric' Leeds talent Summerville

Crysencio Summerville is an “electric” talent and could make his Leeds United breakthrough this season.

That is according to Leeds ambassador Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 19-year-old Dutch winger.

Summerville has featured for Leeds against Guiseley, Fleetwood Town and Ajax in pre-season.

He signed from Dutch outfit Feyenoord in September last year but is yet to make his senior Leeds debut.

But the wide man, who was named on Marcelo Bielsa’s bench once last season, has impressed for the under-23s.

He has notched six goals and seven assists in 14 appearances across all competitions for the youth side.

And Whelan has been mightily impressed by what he has seen from the youngster ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

“He’s the one to watch,” he told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“I’m sure throughout the season, these young boys will be pushing to get in the team. That’s what it’s all about.

“We’ve seen the quality that he has. He’s electric, brilliant on the ball, very direct, quick feet.

“I think everyone who has seen him is very optimistic about the future and what he can offer Leeds United.

“He might have a part to play because there are cup competitions where these young lads are gonna be used and introduced.

Leeds get the 2021-22 campaign underway on 14 August against Man United at Old Trafford.

The Whites will be hoping to build on an impressive 9th-place finish in the Premier League last term.
