Ayase Ueda has certainly given Leeds United encouragement to sign him after Japan beat Tunisia 4-0 in the 2026 World Cup on Sunday.

The Feyenoord striker was heavily involved as the Samurai Blue easily got past Herve Renard's team at Estadio Monterrey on 21 June.

The 27-year-old was Hajime Moriyasu's choice at number nine in the 2-2 draw with the Netherlands and has now justified his inclusion in the side.

Ueda has been linked with a move to Elland Road in recent months and his performance for Japan against Tunisia has shown that Leeds should look to bring him in.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin did well for the Whites in the 2025-26 campaign, with Lukas Nmecha serving as a decent backup, but there's a feeling among fans that more quality up front is needed to make further progress.

The Japanese centre-forward feels like the perfect player for Daniel Farke due to his relentless pressing, intelligent link-up play and impressive finishing.

Ueda showcased his skill set in Mexico, scoring two goals and providing one assist in his 84 minutes on the pitch.

The Feyenoord striker's clinicality is evident after finding the back of the net twice with an xG of 0.42 as he recorded three shots on target.

Ueda's heading ability was on show against Tunisia, scoring a looping header to complete his brace and winning three of his four aerial duels.

The forward also provided two key passes, created one big opportunity and completed one of his two dribbles as he continued to put in the miles for Japan.

Leeds United to pounce on Ayase Ueda

Sources told Football Insider in May that Leeds had identified Ueda as a key target, with Feyenoord willing to listen to offers for him.

In the 2025-26 campaign, the forward scored 25 goals in 31 Eredivisie appearances and it wouldn't be surprising to see him take the next big step in his career soon.

While the Premier League's physicality and intensity are unmatched, Ueda may have the qualities to shine at Elland Road if the West Yorkshire outfit can get a deal over the line.
