Everton and Nottingham Forest in 'strange' PSR situation as Leeds have 'good claim' vs Leicester
Leeds United have a good legal case against Leicester City, but it is confusing as to why Everton and Nottingham Forest are not being involved.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that, while a deal may have already been struck with the Premier League duo, there are no signs to suggest so.
This comes after the news that Leeds are considering legal action against the Foxes due to their historic breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Although the Whites have cited the 2023-24 campaign, when Leicester won promotion from the Championship and Daniel Farke's side missed out, it is believed that the previous season could be more important.
Borson believes that Everton and Forest avoiding relegation in the 2023-24 campaign adds another dimension to the case, but admits that a deal might have been done behind the scenes.
That leaves all of the attention on Leicester, who have now been relegated to League One, and Burnley's recent successful legal battle against Everton appears to have set a precedent.
Have Leeds already struck an agreement with Everton and Nottingham Forest?
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has been left by the entire situation, but is adamant that the Whites would have a good case against the Foxes, nonetheless.
"I've looked more closely at 2022-23. Leeds got relegated, but three of the five teams breached PSR in that season. Leicester breached but went down, and Forest and Everton breached and stayed up," he said.
"Regardless of what happened with the case against Burnley, it seems to me that Leeds have a good claim against Forest and/or Everton and/or Leicester as much as anything.
"The whole picture and the version of events that would have happened had those three teams not breached.
"Leeds could pursue the case and, probably, will get something. But it seems to me, the fact they're briefing only on Leicester, that does suggest they've already done a deal with Forest and Everton.
"The only thing about that is that we don't see that in any of the accounts. So that's quite unusual. If you go through the Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Everton accounts, there's no mention of any settlement.
"It could have been done at another level of the organisation. The two parent companies maybe agreed something. I don't know. It's a bit strange."
Leeds might be preparing for legal sneak-attack
With confusion over the Toffees' and the Reds' lack of involvement in the situation, Borson has suggested that the Premier League duo may not be safe just yet.
Expecting to see settlement figures appear in the club's finance records and not seeing anything, the finance expert suggested that Leeds could have some hidden intentions.
He said: "Leeds are out there telling everybody that they're gonna sue Leicester, but they haven't said that about Nottingham Forest and Everton.
"That doesn't make any sense unless you've settled already, or they just tactically want to keep it quiet for now, or they want to wait and see what happens with Burnley."
Although, Borson admitted that this would be unlikely.
